“Apocalyptifuck”, The Daily Derriere, May 23, 2017

This piece is based off the concepts of Jack Kirby. I am swiping nothing specific, only the general gestalt.

The drawing’s specific inspiration is a sketch done 23 years ago, when I was in my Kirby-worship phase. When I excavated it and tried to repurpose it for my upcoming Adults Only adult coloring book, I decided to try to imitate more than just the Master’s line quality. I converted it from horizontal to vertical as a simple expedient enabling me to cram more stuff in (the better for y’all to color).

I’m posting both the original and the redo.

“Squat 0793”, The Daily Derriere, March 18, 2017

This drawing was found dumpster diving in a sketchbook from 1993, while I was working on “The Mark in America”, a serially published, never collected graphic novel I illustrated for Dark Horse Comics, published in early 1994. I was in my Jack Kirby phase at the time.

Minimal #6a and 6b, The Daily Derriere, February 4, 2017

These drawings were discovered in my sketchbook/journal dated 1992/12.12-1993/6.23.

They were drawn on opposite sides of the same page, hence Minimal 6a is the original and 6b uses 6a as its guide.

I fixated on the art of Jack Kirby during this period in the early 90’s. You can see evidence of it in Minimal 6b. This was my version of Kirby anatomy.

Daily Derriere, August 25, 2016, “Naked Nick Fury”

This drawing is from a sketchbook I was keeping in the summer of 1992. I was going through a Jack Kirby  phase, except that I made no attempt to imitate the style of any of his inkers.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, MARCH 29, 2016

The drawing on the left was drawn first; the drawing on the right was drawn on the reverse side of the same sketchbook page. I was going through my “Kirby” phase (early/mid 90’s) when I did these.

I was in my Jack Kirby phase when I did this drawing.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, FEBRUARY 28, 2016

This is my version of Thor, or at least it’s a naked guy with long blonde hair, drawn as much like Jack Kirby as I could manage in 1992.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, FEBRUARY 23 , 2016

This drawing is fairly simple but not as abstract as the two recent drawings. This one is more like Kirby or Bruce Timm than Matisse or non-Cubist Picasso

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 25, 2013

This drawing is completely
in colored pencil—no cheating assistance from Tombo Brush pens (laying in a
time-saving gray tone underlay) here. Dunno why not. I think I was engaged
watching a movie on cable while drawing. “Puss N Boots”, if memory serves.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 23, 2013

Another Kirby-esque sketch, insofar as this could be
interpreted as a depiction of Mr. Fantastic’s penis. If one chose to. Again,
done with Tombo marker pens. No white out, as far as I can see.
