THE DAILY DERRIERE, JULY 12, 2016

After a break of several months, from the death of my domestic partner, John Callahan in February 2013, to my stroke in April 2013 and my protracted recuperation therefrom, I resumed drawing in my “Daily Derrier” sketchbook (a repurposed American Express Appointment Book from 2012). This drawing was executed with Prismacolor colored pencils over a double page spread photo of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, JANUARY 30. 2016

As with most postings in the “Daily Derriere” series, these art works are done in an American Express Date Book from 2012. I started the series in January 2013 and started posting them in January of this year, hence the odd dating.

This drawing was executed using water soluble colored pencils, hence the ambiguous effect.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, JANUARY 25, 2016

As in most of my “Daily Derriere” posts, I’m working out of an American Express Appointment Book for 2012. I started this series of drawings on January 1st, 2013 and started posting them on January 1st 2016, hence the weird dating, both in the drawings and the posting there-of.

My favorite drawings in the series are like this one, drawn and/or painted over the double page photo spreads that headed each month. I would stare at the photo until an image arose from my sub-conscious before I started in, usually completing the drawing in 15 minutes or less. In fact, that was part of the parameters of the project: do an artwork everyday on the subject of butts, working fast and loose without any attempt to do good work. These were the same parameters as in my previous series, “The Daily Dick”. I knew from experience that it would take longer to blog the work, which entailed scanning and cataloguing each image, possibly writing a paragraph or two about each image, then posting the image, both on this blog and then on my Facebook page. However, I’ve been somewhat remiss in this series since I’ve rarely written anything to go with the posted images. My reason is, I’m doing another daily blog on my www.raderofthelostart.com site where I AM writing a paragraph to accompany the posted images.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, JANUARY 11. 2016

The paper in the American Express Date Book (for 2012) I was using when I did these drawing 3 years ago in 2013 had such porous paper that the ink I had used for the January 10 drawing bled through and nike slightly the page underneath. Instead of fighting it, I used the properties of the crappy paper as part of the art for the next 3 day’s drawings. Today you get a double serving of derriere.

THE DAILY DERRIERE, JANUARY 1 2016

JANUARY 1, 2016

This is the first post of “THE
DAILY DERRIERE”, taken from scans of my “DAILY DERRIER” sketchbook. Like my
previous series, “THE DAILY DICK”, these are done in “The American Express
Appointment Book” for 2012. I started the series on January 1st,
2013, but was derailed from my daily schedule by life (or death) happening, in
this case my spouse, John Callahan, losing his prolonged battle with
metastasized prostate cancer on February 17th, and my near-fatal
stroke on April 4th.

THE DAILY DICK, DECEMBER 4, 2013

This is the last page and the end paper/back cover to
the 2013 American Express Date Book, which I repurposed as “The Daily Dick”
sketchbook. Goodbye 2013! I’ll miss you.

THE DAILY DICK, SEPTEMBER 15, 2013

The whimsy continues. I finally decided to use the
book I was using to sketch in as a source of ideas for artwork. This is not
intended as a comment on Atlanta, which, no doubt is a wonderful city (I
wouldn’t know; I’ve never been.)
