THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 25, 2013

This drawing is completely
in colored pencil—no cheating assistance from Tombo Brush pens (laying in a
time-saving gray tone underlay) here. Dunno why not. I think I was engaged
watching a movie on cable while drawing. “Puss N Boots”, if memory serves.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 24, 2013

You’re getting three dicks
for the price of one today (five, actually).

The first 3 are from October
18, 2013, lovingly, carefully painted over this photo of the rear end of a
cable car traveling down the steep hills towards the Maritime National Park. Given
the Christmas decorations on the cable car, the penises have a touching
resonance with the 3 wise men of Christian mythology.

On the right side of the
double page folio spread is the ghostly image of a standing male nude with a
boner, Whuzzup with that, you may be wondering.

Whuzzup with that, you’ll
see as you turn the page of this virtual sketchbook is a pen and ink drawing
of  standing male nude with a
hard-on, copied from a photo from a mid-80’s gayporn rag, in croquill pen and
ink wash. This drawing was done two days after the double page spread done on
10/18. The ink bled through the thin, porous paper to the other side of the
page, creating a ghost image on the photograph. I decided to make use of this
happy accident, augmenting it with thinly applied watercolor and gouache. Hence
the drawing, on the right hand side of the folio page, dated 19-21-12.

That accounts for 10-18,
10-20, and 10-21, 2012.  Where, you
may be wondering, is the drawing for 10-19-2012?

Check
in tomorrow and find out.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 23, 2013

Another Kirby-esque sketch, insofar as this could be
interpreted as a depiction of Mr. Fantastic’s penis. If one chose to. Again,
done with Tombo marker pens. No white out, as far as I can see.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 22, 2013

This drawing was done with Tombo brush pens and white
out pen, very quickly. 10 minutes or less. It reminds me of Jack Kirby, like a
character from the “New Gods” comic.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 21. 2013

Once again, colored pencil, non-repro blue, navy blue
and gray, I’d say. I’m sort of proud of this one; it’s completely from my
imagination, done very quickly, in 15 minutes or less.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 20, 2013

Same deal as yesterday,
wet-into-wet acrylic using leftover paint, color mixing directly on the page.
Except, this time, I started with a yellowish underpainted wash.

I really like the look of
the last 3 posted paintings; I think they would look great painted large, say
3’ x 4’, maintaining the same large strokes.

Yeow,
I just noticed: this is the 50th post in the “Daily Dick” series.
I’m just about halfway through the “Daily Dick” sketchbook. In order to avoid
repetition (and the accompanying boredom and ennui), I had to keep mixing
things up, trying new shit. Things get even more interesting from here on out.

More acrylic, this time painting wet into wet, doing
the color mixing on the page itself. I was working with leftover paint from
whatever canvas I was doing at the time.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 18, 2013

This is done with black
acrylic paint.

It’s
based off yesterday’s colored pencil drawing. I don’t think I referred to the
original photograph; I wanted greater abstraction. I definitely succeeded; the
image is unrecognizable as a close-up of a crotch. It can only be appreciated
as an abstract image and for the sensual pleasure of the smeared paint.

More colored pencil.

This
one is based off a vintage photo from the one of the first gayporn mags I ver
bought, back in 1983. I think I used 3 colors to execute this drawing;
lavender, navy blue and gray. It has a ghostly feel to it.

THE DAILY DICK, OCTOBER 16, 2013

Still working in colored
pencil here.

This
is sort of the reverse of yesterday’s drawing—I was more concerned with the
negative space. I drew that first and drew in the penis and lower torso as an
afterthought. Once again I used the ability to achieve subtle layering of
color.
