This is my version of Thor, or at least it’s a naked guy with long blonde hair, drawn as much like Jack Kirby as I could manage in 1992.

This drawing reminds me of Alex Toth, in that I allow the figure to disappear into the background without any backlighting, a Tothian gimmick.

This seems to be a superhero design, done in late ’92, around the time I was gearing up to illustrate The Mark, a comic series published by Dark Horse Comics in ’93/’94.


I was definitely on a simplicity kick back in late ’92. I like it. I should get back to doing this kind of work.

This drawing is fairly simple but not as abstract as the two recent drawings. This one is more like Kirby or Bruce Timm than Matisse or non-Cubist Picasso
